he Embassy of India, Tokyo is pleased to inform that a “ Kerala State – Investment Promotion Seminar” is being organized on November 28, 2019 from 1000 hrs – 1230 hrs at the Embassy of India, Tokyo during the visit of a delegation led Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan, Hon’ble Chief Minister, State Government of Kerala.
Kerala is situated in the southwestern end of the Indian subcontinent. The State is a highly advanced society and scores high on human development indicators with the highest literacy rate and highest life expectancy. Kerala, with a coastline of nearly 590 km, has a major port at Kochi (with a cruise terminal) and 16 smaller ports along the coast. The state is very close to global maritime trade route passing through the Indian Ocean region with Kochi International Container Trans-shipment Terminal (ICT) at Vallarpadam. The state also has four international airports in Kochi, Calicut, Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur. Kerala recorded US$ 9.8 billion worth of exports in FY2018-19, registering a growth of about 34.6% over the previous year. The state is the largest producer of coir and coconut in India. It is also the major exporter of spices, marine products, cashew, coffee and pickles with two-thirds of the state’s income comes from food processing industry. Kerala is also a home to 48 cooperative societies that promotes textile, handloom and handicraft industry with 575 operational power looms in the state. The state also offers IT infrastructure in the form of dedicated IT parks such as Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, notified as special economic zones. More than 800 hectares of land is available for development for IT-related infrastructure. The state also has Food Park, Defence Park, Electronic Manufacturing Cluster, Textile Centre, International Apparel Park, Export Promotion Industrial Park, Film & Video Park, Hi-tech Park, Integrated Textile & Industrial Park, Infopark and other Industrial Parks. The State Government of Kerala is exploring collaboration with Japanese companies in focus sectors especially in food processing, marine products, ship building, manufacturing, waste management, disaster management and ayurveda.
The investment seminar will provide information on the initiative undertaken by the State Government of Kerala to improve ease of doing business as well as investment opportunities for Japanese stakeholders in the State.
